The Orjen Mountain & Crkvice Adventure is the most complete way to see the mountains above Herceg Novi. Starting in Kameno, the 62 km route climbs through the villages and karst of the hinterland to Crkvice, the plateau where Austria-Hungary once built an entire garrison town, and then continues high onto Mount Orjen.
Orjen is the highest mountain on the Montenegrin coast, reaching almost 1,900 m, and one of the rainiest places in Europe. Its landscape is shaped by karst and ancient glaciers, with rocky peaks, beech forest and Bosnian pine higher up. The goal of the ride is Orjenska lokva, a small mountain pond in the middle of this wild scenery and a favourite stop for photos.
Plan 4 to 5 hours for the whole tour, with stops at Crkvice, at the pond and at viewpoints along the way. It suits riders who want a real mountain day, and the pace is always adjusted to the group.
Times are approximate. The pace, the stops and the exact route are adjusted to the group and to the weather and trail conditions on the day.
