Safety First on Every Ride

How we keep our quad and buggy tours in Montenegro safe and fun, and what you need to know before you ride.

Our approach to safety

Quad & buggy tour safety is our first priority. Riding a quad or a buggy through the hills above the Bay of Kotor is one of the best ways to see Montenegro, and it should feel exciting, never stressful. Every tour is guided by a local rider who knows the roads, the terrain and the weather, and the pace is always set by the group, not the other way round. No previous experience is needed: before you set off, you get a helmet, a safety briefing and a short test ride.

Experienced local guides

Your guide rides with the group from start to finish and knows every trail, viewpoint and hazard on the route.

Helmet for every rider

Every driver and passenger gets a helmet in the right size. Riding without a helmet is not allowed.

Briefing & test ride

Before departure you learn the controls and hand signals, then try the vehicle on a short test section.

Pace set by the group

The speed and the stops follow the least experienced rider, so everyone can enjoy the ride.

Before you ride

Requirements

  • Drivers must be at least 18 and hold a valid car (category B) driving licence. Please bring it with you.
  • Passengers do not need a licence. Children can ride as passengers with an adult driver.
  • No alcohol or drugs before or during the tour. Your guide can refuse to let anyone ride who is not fit to drive.
  • Health: quad and buggy riding is not recommended during pregnancy or with serious back, neck or heart problems. Let us know about any health issue when booking.

What to wear and bring

  • Closed shoes such as trainers or boots. No flip-flops or sandals.
  • Long trousers and a light jacket or long sleeves to protect against dust, branches and sun.
  • Sunglasses or glasses: the tracks can be dusty in summer.
  • Water, sunscreen and your driving licence. Tie back long hair and avoid loose scarves.

During the ride

A few simple rules keep every tour safe for you, your group and everyone else on the road.

1

Follow your guide

Ride in a line behind your guide and use the same track. Never overtake the guide.

2

Keep your distance

Leave enough space to the vehicle in front of you, especially downhill and on gravel.

3

Adjust your speed

Slow down on loose gravel, in bends, in villages and whenever visibility is limited.

4

Hands and feet on board

Keep both hands on the handlebar or wheel and your feet on the footrests. Passengers hold on at all times.

5

Watch the signals

Stop, slow down and turn when your guide signals. Stop only where the guide tells you to.

6

Respect nature and locals

Stay on the tracks, take your rubbish with you and ride slowly and quietly through villages.

Weather and heat

Tours run in light rain, with rain gear provided. In case of storms, strong wind or other unsafe conditions, we reschedule your tour or cancel it free of charge. In July and August, midday temperatures on the coast often go above 30 °C, so we recommend morning or sunset departures and plenty of water.

Quad or buggy?

A buggy has side-by-side seats, seat belts and a protective frame, and is driven with a steering wheel and pedals like a car. It is the most relaxed choice for couples, families and anyone who prefers to sit securely.

A quad is more active: you steer with a handlebar and use your body in the bends. It is great fun for riders who want to feel the terrain. Not sure which to choose? Ask us on WhatsApp.
